Fenton Dance Academy award winners from the senior and major level dancers are pictured.

Fifty-eight dancers from the Fenton Dance Academy (FDA) tapped, jazzed, chasséd and hip-hopped away with many trophies, ribbons and plaques at recent regional competitions.

Nine gold awards, 15 high gold awards and four platinum awards (platinum being the most prestigious) were taken at "StarQuest International" and "Dance USA" Regional Competitions held in the metropolitan Detroit area. First Place Overall prizes were awarded to four dance productions as well as several overall honors for second and third place.

At "Dance USA," FDA made a clean sweep, taking first, second, third, fourth and fifth places for Best Large Group and Line. Oliver Waterfield earned a Platinum Award for his solo rendition of "Boom! Shake the Room." He also walked away with the "Most Promising Star" award.

Oliver Waterfield and Kelly Hilliker were selected to perform with the "Dance USA" Team at their national competition. Team members take special classes and perform in the opening production number.

Dancers in the FDA audition for admission and are placed in five different levels of performance/competition teams. They study ballet, jazz and tap at The Dance Extension on Grange Hall Road, midway between Fenton and Holly, an extension of the Fenton School of Dance. They train weekly with four different instructors and are treated to occasional workshop sessions from nation performer/choreographers.
