Fifty-eight dancers from Fenton Dance Studio competed in the
Starquest International Talent Competition in Livonia on Feb.
8.Director Susan Carter said, "I haven't counted all the medals and ribbons yet, but it was a very good win for us. Competition was stiff." The Majors Team, 16 years and over, won two high golds of a lyrical dance and a tap number. A special award for the best timing, musical and emotional expression was awarded to this group. The Seniors Team (13- and 14-year-olds) took a gold for their ballet dance and a high silver for their jazz piece. The 10- to12-year-old group, Intermediate Team, was awarded two high silvers for a musical theatre dance and a tap routine. The Junior Level Team consisting of 7- to 9-year-olds, won two high golds for a jazz and a tap routine. They also won second and third place overall, while a jazz number took a third and a tap routine received a second. "This was very exciting for our whole academy and a big surprise for the juniors, because this was their very first competition," said Carter. "They had a really good day and they also took a special award that says 'totally together,' and they were. Their technique was awesome and they were just sparkling with personality." |
