Academy Program

Established in 1994, the Academy & Pre-Academy at Fenton School of Dance & Academy is our nationally awarded competitive group that wows crowds every year at regional and national competitions. This program is for those dancers who are looking to take their training to the next level, and who wish to partake in annual adjudicated performance opportunities within Michigan and across the country.

My daughter has been with Fenton School of Dance & Academy for 4 years. The level of instruction is exceptional. The choreography is creative. I love the high emphasis on technique and that they offer Cecchetti instruction.

Academy (7+)

Our Academy program is our most rigorous dance program, and is comprised of a dedicated group of dancers with a drive and desire to fully commit themselves to their training. This program involves elevated training across all genres, and provides individualized attention and mentoring thanks to our small class sizes lead by our nationally recognized staff.

Academy Involves:

  • Annual audition (held in August).

  • Prioritizing dance over all other extracurricular activities.

  • 3 regional competitions a year.

  • 1 regional convention a year. 

  • 1 national competition every-other year. 

  • Mandatory summer classes. 

  • Participation in our annual recital (held in May/June). 

  • Opportunity to participate in solos, duets, and trios (approval required).

Academy Training:

  • At least 4 technique classes/season: ​

    • Jazz Technique

    • Tap Technique

    • Ballet Technique

    • Cecchetti Ballet

  • A Conditioning class. 

  • At least 2 competitive choreography classes/season:

    • ​Jazz

    • Tap

    • Hip-Hop

    • Contemporary 

    • Musical Theater​

  • Opportunity to participate in solos, duets, and trips (approval required).

Pre-Academy (6+)

Is your kiddo convinced they are ready to be a professional dancer right now? This might be the level of seriousness and commitment your tot is looking for! A more disciplined program involving twice-weekly rehearsals that provide a solid foundation of ballet, tap, and jazz classes with our finest instructors. This is the first big step for our little ones (typically recommended by our teachers after being seen in primary classes) into the academy.

Pre-Academy Involves:

  • Annual audition (held in August).

    • Pre-Academy competes in Tap and Jazz.​

  • Mandatory summer classes.

Dancers hoping to become a part of the Fenton Dance Academy must attend a formal, closed audition following summer classes to determine their level placement.

If and when accepted into the Academy Program, dancers and parents must sign a contract and commit to a full season of rehearsals and performances (including the purchase of costumes, make-up, and additional necessary items).
